Before Thanksgiving I stopped by a Church for a free turkey. Unable to cook for my family in awhile, I was hoping for a change. When I arrived a woman told me they were out. Sadly, I was about to leave when she asked me to wait. 15 minutes later she returned with a turkey and 2 bags of groceries for me. She had paid for everything herself. She GMH

At 3AM wednesday, i went down to the kitchen to wash my midnight snack dishes when i stumbled upon my 14-yr-old brother with a bag of Hershey’s kisses. As i got closer, i saw that he was replacing the paper sticking out of the wrapper on the candy kisses w/ strips where he printed out lyrics to give to his GF the next day. School starts at 7AM. In 10th grade, right before the end-of-the-year dance, I split up with my boyfriend and therefore had no date. Shortly before leaving, a friend of my mother’s son showed up at the door in his Sunday best with a “corsage” made of few dandelions taped together attached to an elastic band. At 6 years old, he GMH

My dad teaches fifth grade. A boy in his class was diagnosed with brain cancer recently. His five year old sister made 500 bookmarks to sell for $2 each, and would send the money to the Tomorrow Fund. She sold all of them within three days, and is making more. A five year who is going to save lives GMH

My sister and I are total opposites. She is a perfect student who was headed for Columbia. I got expelled from two high schools and barely graduated. Miraculously I was accepted to a university. My sister found out how much my tuition was and decided to attend our state university instead so my parents could pay my tuition. Her selflessness GMH.

Last year, my teacher told us about a student of hers whose dad was working as a doorman in the World Trade Center during 9/11. Instead of leaving when the plane hit, he stayed behind and ushered everyone out as calmly as he could. The building collapsed on him. He and the other heroes of 9/11 GMH.

Yesterday I was watching the nightly local news. A story came up about a 2nd grade girl who was diagnosed with leukemia and lost her hair. A boy in her class not ONLY shaved his head so she wouldnt be alone, he also got their whole class to do it too. I cried. Good people, at all ages, GMH.

I work two jobs and money is very tight. One day, I was ordering dinner at Subway, and when I got to the register, I realized that I didn’t have enough money to pay for my meal. Embarrassed, I left the store and started walking home. After a few minutes, I was stopped by a man in a Subway uniform who gave me a free sandwich and a hug. GMH.

The other day I found out my mother sold a bunch of her jewelry, including hers and my fathers wedding rings, just so my little sister and brother could have a good Christmas. My grandparents also found out, and immediately went out and spent a big amount of their savings account. On what? New wedding rings for my parents. My grandparents GMH.

A few days ago, I was feeling really horrible in class. I didn’t want to leave, so I sat quietly in the back, tears running down my face. The next morning, I found a bag of homemade cookies in my mailbox, with a note from my strict professor, saying “Smile. You deserve to.” Unexpected kindness GMH.

My grandpa was deployed to the Korean War just before proposing to my grandma. He sent her a box, and asked her not to open it until he returned. She saved it for 2 years until he did, never knowing if he would return, to open it and see the ring. They’ve been married 55 years. Their love GMH.

Today, I came across a video of CNN reporter Anderson Cooper reporting the news in Haiti. Chaotic looting had broken out all around him. Suddenly, the looting turned violent, and a young boy was laying on the ground, gushing blood. In the chaos, Cooper stopped reporting, sprinted over, and dragged the stunned boy to safety. GMH

Today I caught my husband chewing anti-smoking gum. I asked him why he suddenly decided to quit, him being a smoker for almost thirty years. He patted my pregnant stomach and told me that he didn’t want our little girl to suffer once she was born. His love for our unborn baby GMH.

My Dad came from a very devout Catholic family. When he married my Mom, a Jew, many of his family members cut themselves off from him. Despite this, my Dad’s mom always remembers to send us cards on every important Jewish holiday, even though she is Catholic. My Grandma’s unconditional love GMH!

Last week, my three year old daughter asked if she could send a letter to god asking why sparky, our 12 year old dog had to go to heaven. Later that day, she mailed that letter. Two days later, we received a letter from an anonymous person saying that Sparky is fine and not to worry and that he will always be with us in memory. People like that GMH

A new nurse has just started working with me at a local nursing home. It took me a while to find out about him, but i learnt he also volunteers for Riding for the Disabled, is the captain of the Rural Fire Service and runs an ENTIRE branch of Meals on Wheels. He is 18. Men like him GMH

This past Mother’s Day, I had visited my Grandmother’s grave in the cemetery. On her grave site laid a rose with a note attached “to a lovely woman who lead a wonderful life, Happy Mother’s Day”. As I looked around other grave sites had roses as well. The kindness of strangers will always GMH.

Just today, I found out the real reason of my parents’ death when I was 10. When our car lost its brakes and was going to crash into another, they tried to protect me to the last minute. Their bodies were found, covering me while I was unconscious. Their never ending love truly GMH.

22 years ago, a 16 year old girl was pregnant with a baby of rape. Understanding the circumstances, her parents told her to abort or be disowned. Her best friend - her 18 year old neighbor - although he was not the father, stepped into the father figures shoes. They got married 2 years later. Today, I was in a bus station saying goodbye to my girlfriend. Me, being a lesbian, kissed her and hugged her for a long time. After she got on the bus, a little boy comes up to me and hugs me. He said, “My mommy doesn’t like people like you, but I do because you’re really pretty.” This little kid GMH

Today i got a package in the mail that was from my sister that had cancer that died a year ago. I opened it and there was a heart necklace and then a note… “Emma, i put this together when i knew i wasn’t going to live for much longer. I just wanted you to know that i’m still thinking of you and that i’ll always be with you.”

There’s a friendly homeless man who always rides the same subway, selling trinkets for 25 cents each, usually to to buy food. Today, instead of collecting the money for himself, he was sending his proceeds to help the victims in Haiti. A man with barely anything selflessly helping those in need GMH.

My grandpa passed away on April 2nd 2009. Before my grandpa passed he pulled his oxygen mask off his face and lifted his hand up to his mouth.
We thought he was going through pain. But instead he blew 3 kisses to my grandma, smiled, and passed away. RIP Grandpa i love you and You GMH.

Years ago, my cousin was in school with a guy who was teased for being himself, and made fun of for being a guy and liking to sing. My cousin encouraged him to pursue his dreams of being a singer. The next year he tried out for American Idol. His name? Clay Aiken. People pursuing their dreams GMH.

Yesterday I saw an old lady struggling to lift her foot onto the first step outside a department store. As soon as the little boy coming out of the doors with his mum saw her, he rushed over to take her arm and help her up the stairs. His mum looked so proud. Good boys who will grow into good men GMH.

A senior in our school is determined to graduate; he immigrated from Senegal, learned English and survived without his family… and he has cancer that cost him his right leg. A day ago, his cancer relapsed. That very night, my school held a special graduation/prayer ceremony, just for him. Now, all tests can’t detect the tumor. It’s gone. GMH

Back in 2003 my older sister had a seizure in the ocean and drowned while on vacation in Florida. We were told by the hospital that the chances of her survival were slim and if she did, she would have irreversible mental damage. She graduated last year as salutatorian of her class. Her strength GMH!

An elderly lady come to my register and was buying milk and bread.
She didn’t have enough $$ and had no way of paying. There was a 12 yr old boy buying a video game and a toy. He handed me his gift card to buy her items. He said that she needs food more than he needs a video game.

My boyfriend has a learning disability and was told he’d never make it in college. This past semester, he passed all his classes at a local community college, including a math class he has had to retake 4 times. I have never been so proud of him. His determination to prove the nay-sayers wrong GMH

Today, it snowed.
I began to get ready to go outside and shovel but when I looked outside I saw that my entire sidewalk and walkway had already been shoveled. It was done by my next door neighbor, who is at least older than 50. He has been doing this every time it snows for as long as I can remember, without asking for anything in return. His kindness GMH

While I was waiting for a flight, I noticed a little girl walk right over to another girl who she did not know and ask if she wanted to color. The girls sat down on the floor and began to talk, and laugh as if they had always been friends. Children who can become friends easily and quickly without regard to race, class or other boundaries GMH.

About a year ago, my mother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She reads GMH daily, looking for inspiration for her life. However she just donated $20,000 we don’t have to spare, to the relief funds for Haiti. Mom, when you see this… i hope you know people like you, GMH.

The wife who was 16 when they first got married is now 96 and the husband who was first 20 is now 100. On Christmas eve, my father attempted suicide. I immediately flew across the country to be with my family for a week and a half. I work an hourly job with no vacation and was worried about money. When I got back, I found that not only was I not fired, but my boss paid me for every day that I was gone. My boss GMH

Five years ago I was raped and left for dead in the woods. A morning jogger found me and carried me to the local hospital. The stranger stayed by my side knowing I was an emancipated minor. He took care of me and the child. Two years later, we sit here at home with our baby girl. My husband GMH.

Last year, a local boat carrying various aged passengers home, flipped during a storm. There was a teenaged boy and a baby aboard. Though the teenaged boy couldn’t swim, he placed the baby on the last floating device—a cushion. The teenaged boy drowned. He was a basketball player and a senior in highschool. The other day I found out one of my classmates has cancer. Yesterday, a friend of his created a group on facebook encouraging people to pray for his recovery. This morning, I joined the group - overnight, it has gained 456 members. 456 people praying for a cancer victim’s recovery GMH.

My doctor called me tonight and told me that they were able to raise $9,900 for me to have my heart procedure done that I need for my heart disease. I could die without this procedure. Random acts of kindness from strangers I’ll never know GMH.

One day in my friend’s highschool, a bully shoved a boy down a flight of stairs and broke a few bones because the boy was gay. My friend confronted the bully, got into a fight, and gave him a bloody nose. My friend is a tiny, shy italian girl who didn’t even know the boy. Last week while I was gone, my boyfriend came to my house and cleaned my room. He folded three loads of laundry and made it spotless. Today, I put on a pair of jeans and later felt something in my pocket, I reached my hand in and pulled out a note saying “I love you”. The ways he shows his love GMH.

Today, it has been almost three months since I have cut myself. Why? On my last birthday, I got my late father’s initials tattooed on my wrist. I don’t care about ruining the tattoo, but it is now a constant reminder that it’s wrong to violate what’s his: Me. Whoever said tattoos were only for rebellious teenagers? Mine GMH.

My 7 year old brother is autistic and has a very hard time with fine motor skills so he was held back. But one day over the weekend he sat at the table for two hours trying to string beads into a bracelet all by himself.
The reason? He loves a little girl in his class named Cindy because she plays with him. His love and her kindness GMH.

One day in 5th grade, I came home upset and told my parents that my friend had been taken out of class by Child Protection Services. My dad did everything he could to find her. Now, for the past 11 years, I’ve had the sister I always wanted. My parents GMH.

In high school, there was a man who every day sat on his mobile scooter and waved to every car that passed. Touched by his kindness, I decided to bake him cookies. When I delivered them, I realized he couldn’t speak as a result of a past stroke. Instead, he kissed me on the cheek to show his thanks. He died 3 years ago. His kindness still GMH.
