It was my sister’s birthday last week.
For presents, she had everyone take something to Greater Works or Toys for Tots.
She spent her entire birthday volunteering at a soup kitchen.
She didn’t have to do that. She could have devoted her entire birthday to herself. But she didn’t.

Today, I was sitting in the waiting room of my doctor’s office during a flu shot clinic.
A boy came up to me and asked why my mom wasn’t there with me. I explained that I drove myself. (I am 20 years old).

A week ago today, my friend Devan was in a car accident and is on full life support. His Facebook is filled with people sending him messages of hope. I just counted 116 posts. Today, he’s started breathing 19 breaths a minute. On his own. The love and hope people are showing for Devan GMH!
I teach art at a high school. There’s a senior girl in my class who is extremely talented, but doesn’t have a very good reputation. When a mentally challenged freshman asked her what she was doing, she explained in detail, and even let him work on the painting with her. She later whole-heartedly declared it as her best piece. She GMH.
There is a girl who used to go my school who recently passed away from cancer. She was the strongest girl I’ve ever known. No matter how bad her day was she was always kind to others and trying to get people to smile even if she couldn’t. Amber you are the strongest girl I’ve ever met. Your strength GMH . R.I.P
Today a man jumped onto the railway tracks as a train was coming, to save the life of a man who had fallen off the platform. This man was a complete stranger.

My grandpa’s been through everything. First a cancerous tumor, then a fluid-filled lung, and now a stroke. Through all this, he still remembers my cousins’ and my school schedules, and makes an effort to get better so he can be there for us. I don’t know how he does it, but my grandpa GMH.

I saw a man walking with the help of crutches through the aisle.
A little girl, about five or six ran up to him and hugged his legs.

Today at school, one of the more popular girls came into school like she usually did: smiling. She gives people compliments left and right. She’s never mean. Today, she told me my hair looked amazing curled. Little did I know, her mother just died the past weekend. Becka, the way you didn’t let a tragic event affect your sweetness GMH
On Friday, my boyfriend’s mom went to the electric company to pay her bill of $135 with only $100 . The woman there told her that if she did not pay the balance by Monday, her electricity would be shut off. When she returned on Monday to pay the $35, the woman told her that the man next to her on Friday had already paid for her. This man GMH.
Today, my 13 year old brother Brock was suspended from school for getting into a fight. When I asked him why he did it, he responded, “This group of kids were bullying a boy with Tourettes at lunch. It’s not fair; it’s not like he asked to have it. ” GMH
My grandmother was raped as a teenager, my mother was sexually assaulted by her brother when she was ten, and I was sexually abused by my father for over ten years. We survived and we’re stronger now. I hope this gives hope to all sexual abuse victims out there.

My girlfriend struggles everyday with depression and cancer. The doctors gave her around 6 months to live. The day she got that news, she stayed up until 4AM on the phone with a friend who was going to commit suicide, and managed to talk her out of it. Her love for others GMH.
While on a plane, I noticed that I was sitting in front of a U.S soldier. As we landed I heard the solider on the phone, saying “Mom, I’m home.”
I’ve never heard such a happy and relieved voice in ages. Our troops Give Me Hope.
A few days after my dad died, I tried to read a poem about him in class. Towards the last few lines, I broke down crying. Within seconds, my entire class was standing by my side, and a few of my friends finished reading the poem for me. My friends GMH.
On Christmas Eve five years ago, my mom was ringing the Salvation Army bells outside of a store. Many rich people walked by her, giving nothing. But then a homeless man went through his pockets and handed her every penny he had. Ray, I miss you. Your passion for God and for others still GMH.
Today, a homeless man asked me for money and so I gave every dollar in my wallet. A few minutes after him thanking my me, the man came back and gave me back the lottery ticket that was stuck in between the dollar bills. His honesty, even though he would need the winnings more than I do GMH.
A family was trying to get on the shuttle train in the Atlanta Airport, but the doors closed before they could all get on. Their little boy, who couldn’t be older than six, was trapped on the train. A man was kind enough to stay with him until his family arrived, even if that meant missing his flight. People like that GMH

as i was sitting in class i saw her fall while walking down an outside hall, she couldn’t get up on her own. Out of no where a boy runs through the rain from the other side of the courtyard to help her up and walks her to class

Last week, an unknown group of people from my school created a “Burn Book” that said mean things about people in our school. Even worse, they published it on facebook. This week, an unknown group of people created an “Un’Burned Book” on facebook that said kind things about people. They GMH.
My brother and I went to the store this morning. On our way out he asked me for a Hershey’s bar, so I bought one.
As we left, he saw a homeless man.

Today, I went to a 5K to support my mom, who loves to run. As I waited by the finish line for her, I saw a man on a skateboard. He didn’t have legs and was using him arms to push himself forward. The crowd cheered louder for him than for any other runner. He crossed the finish line, grinning. The crowds encouragement, and his determination GMH
November 24th marked mine and Steven’s first anniversary. I knew we couldn’t celebrate it together because he’s in the Airforce, so I was feeling lonely and sad when my roommate said, “I have an anniversary present for you. ” It was Steven. They and half the people in my dorm had been planning this surprise for weeks. My friends GMH
This summer, I convinced my 17 year old friend not to get an abortion. She has found adoptive parents and despite her boyfriend (the father) breaking up with her and her baby belly expanding rapidly, she still has the courage to go to school and get on stage. Tawni, despite the judging eyes the always follow you, I love you and you GMH!
Yesterday I saw a girl all alone in the cafeteria. I don’t have a place to sit anywhere either. Without a second thought I decided to sit down at her table. We ended up talking, I’m glad we did. It turned out she was writing her suicide letter for later that day. Knowing I saved her life GMH.
Today, on Thanksgiving, I was at a 5k run. At the finish, there were many food sponsors for energy bars and such giving out free food. As I was leaving, I saw an old homeless lady surrounded by the food that was being given out, which people had been giving to her. People who know the true meaning of Thanksgiving GMH.
A couple months ago, my little brother came home from his first day in kindergarten.
When I asked him about his class, he said “there’s a girl in my class, and she’s so pretty!”
The girl he was talking about is a bald 5 year old with leukemia.

One of the more popular guys posted his facebook status as “Vote Dennis for Everybody’s Friend” over 40 people had liked it.
Dennis died last summer and he was in special needs classes.

Yesterday I was playing with an unopened booklight in my boyfriend’s car. He told me he bought it for the homeless girl he always sees trying to read at night by streetlight. He can barely afford to feed himself. He GMH more than anyone else and inspires me every day to be a better person.
I am Jewish, and today, I posted a Facebook status about how near Hanukkah is, and how excited I am. Within minutes, a Muslim girl liked it. It’s just a little thing, but her acceptance GMH.
When I was in 1st grade, a boy in my class, his father and his uncle drowned in the ocean. The day before the funeral, his mother came to my class and thanked us for being his friends and making his short life good. Her strength and gratefulness, even in the worst of times, GMH.
In high school, I told my friend I barely ate anything, but still couldn’t lose weight. While the teacher was talking, she wrote out a long note, telling me how beautiful I was and advising me on what I should eat. I’ve never told her this, but she saved my life. Thank you. You GMH.
Our quarterback died over the summer. It would have been his fourth year in a row going to the playoffs. We went to playoffs, and the home team for the first game painted his number on the field, and held a moment of silence for him. Their kindness for our fallen player, GMH.
Today, one of my male friends on Facebook put this in his status. “Why are all the girls that have been/are on America’s Next Top Model the most unattractive people on earth?.” Guys that know TRUE beauty GMH
I live in NYC, a city known for being busy and uncaring
Today I saw a blind man walk up the middle of the street, not realizing it. Not a single car honked it’s horn or tried to move when the light turned green. They waited until a women led him onto the sidewalk.
A city that really does care GMH
Everyday in my Latin class I write in an orange pen.
This is because my Latin teacher is colorblind and only sees the color orange.
He always grades my papers in green. This is because I’m colorblind also and the only color I see is green.

Today was Remembrance Day, when everyone wears poppies to honour fallen British soldiers. A group of extremist Muslims burnt loads of poppies, causing a lot of racist comments around my school. Walking home, I saw two Muslim men proudly wearing poppies.

In grade 8 I took to cutting. That same year 6 girls found out about my self-harm. We had never talked before but they still turned me into the counselor. I got the help I needed. To those 6 girls, Thank you. You saved my life from the road I was on. You gmh.
2 years ago, my mom fell through a frozen pond while trying to save my dog. One of my classmates was walking home early from school as he passed my mom was dying of hypothermia. He immediately walked onto the ice and pulled her out. He saved my moms life that day. The fact that he was willing to risk his life, GMH
I am 18 and have a 3 month old daughter, I usually get dirty looks at stores and people just watch while I struggle to open doors and do certain things while juggling my girl. Today an older man held a door open for me and invited me to his church where they have a support group for single teen moms, thus proving, not everyone is bad. He GMH
Two years ago, my dad had brain surgery. Due to complications, he stayed in the hospital a month longer than expected. Despite the stress of driving 2.5 hours to visit him and keeping up with three kids who have very busy schedules, she managed to be an amazing mom and I never saw her cry. Her love and dedication for her husband and family GMH
In school we played a game. if you agreed with the statement/question, you walked across the room. The question was ‘i feel comfortable with my body’, one of the biggest girls in the class walked across the room, without a second of doubt.

A few days ago, my whole school took a vow of silence. They did it to bring awareness to the children who do not have the rights to speak across the world.

I fell asleep in class Thursday. When I woke up, class was almost over but my sleeve was rolled up, my classmates had written their names on my arm, and there was a stack of papers next to me all saying how much they cared for me. My arms are covered in cuts and scars and i have horrible problems in my life. Their love and support GmH
My best friend was killed after he was deported to Iraq. After that, I’ve hated the military. Then, one day during lunch, a man came up to me with a bag full of letters for me, telling me how much I was missed. It took the army a week to find me. Certain militants give me hope.
My birthday is coming up and I didn’t have any plans for it. My friend called me up on a random Sunday and asked if i wanted to meet her for something to eat. I got to the restaurant and my whole entire junior class was there. Having amazing friends like this gives me hope.
My older brother (20 years old) picked me up from a dance the other night. In his car were two HUGE barbie toys. I saw the receipt. The total: $456. I asked him who they were for. He told me that they were for a terminally ill girl at the hospital he works at. As he told me her story, I started to cry. His undying thoughtfulness GMH! Thanks Kev.
